Colt 1937 “Navy”. This pistol was returned in 1996 from Argentina and is one of two known examples, of a complete and original 1937 Navy returned to the USA after foreign Navy service. The only other known pistol is in the collection of author Charles W. Clawson.  For the advanced collector,  these two Colt’s are the rarest of all 1937 Navy’s in existence. Please see the attached explanation from Mr. Clawson. Since the “General Belgrano” aka Light Cruiser Phoenix (CL-46) was sunk during the Battle of the Falkland Islands, by the British submarine Conqueror, it is likely that this pistol was aboard the cruiser “9 de Julio” until her retirement in 1978. For a more complete history of these two ships follow this link:

This Colt retains 85-90% of the phosphate finish and is original and matching in all regards, including slide and all small parts with the original barrel which remains in excellent condition.

To aid in Ithaca’s production delays, replacement slides identified by the "M1911A1 U.S. ARMY" stamped on the right side of the slide were used in regular production. These can be found from about serial number 904000 to about the 1208674 range. Both Colt, Remington Rand, and Union Switch and Signal produced replacement slides with the "M1911A1 U.S. ARMY" on the right side. These were made from 1938 to mid 1943. But Ithaca Gun Co. was the only company to use them in regular production. These slides found on pistols of another manufacturer besides Ithaca Gun Co. signifies that the slide has been replaced. Gun retains 99.5% original finish.

A pistol manufactured at Remington Rand and assembled per military specifications. Has third style slide logo and later style small parts along with the later production “grey” parkerized finish. Marked "MG-200" where the serial number would be on the right side of the receiver and marked "MG-200" just below the slide logo on the left side of the slide. Has black experimental Keyes Fibre Co. grips of which only two pistols known to have had these grips per Charles Clawson’s observations. Pistol has no other markings. Manufactured much like the ERRS and Demonstration pistols with “MG-200” stamping exactly the same size and style font as the ERRS and DEMO pistols. I have not been able to ascertain the meaning of the "MG-200" marking. Possibly an in house experimental pistol being that it has the experimental grips mentioned in Clawson’s book or could have been a guard gun. Pistol is in 99+% condition.
